For all the popularity of Duolingo as an app, LingoDeer offers everything it does and more. ![]() Plus, their speech recognition technology is top-notch. Babbel German dialogue drill By contrast, with Babbel, their verbal exercises are much more robust. And with Duolingo, you’re really just asked to repeat words and phrases in a vacuum. it is wholly free, but it doesn’t go into grammar details that much. Duolingo Korean covers the most common language and phrases to communicate and write basic thoughts and ideas in the present, past, and future tenses. I used Duolingo exclusively for 6 months and feel like I learned very, very little. With LingoDeer, there’s really not much verbal practice outside of their Stories feature. Duolingo- This app includes the most commonly used Korean vocabulary in the app and allows users to study. With each section of the "tree" they will have cards that explain the more subtle points, but unless you go and specifically look for it, you will never see these. ![]() ![]() For kana i found neither of them teaches them properly and newbies might find themselves lost. The other piece with Duolingo is that they do have the deeper grammar, pronunciation, and explanation points, they are just hard to find and the program never makes you learn them. As always, lingodeer is still excellent teaching grammar in a logic and consistent way, on the other hand I found duolingo needs a better explanation, which i find really important. The social/gamification elements are also really positive - they provide constant measurements of success, especially with language learning being one where you sometimes are just in the doldrums and not feeling the progress. You can jump on and in 5-10 minutes review vocab and keep that part of your brain active. Duolingo is great for quick refreshers or for making sure you keep Korean "top of mind" if you live in a country that doesn't use Korean. ![]()
